Gralynn and I have ritual. Hold your judgement, but she still sleeps with me in my bed. EVERY night. I happen to love it, and yes I know she has got to get of the bed..blah, blah, blah. However, this is not the content of tonight's post. The ritual is she says "i love you Jesus, thank you for everything. Amen" Then we exchange "I'm so happy to be your mommy, with I'm so happy to be your daughter and Good Night, Sweet Dreams, I love you. Kiss kiss roll over and snore. Well, Greg and I are trying somewhat to get her at least interested in sleeping in her room. SO, she plays more in her room and naps in her room. Tonight I tried something new. We got all cozied in her bed and read from her God's Little Princess Devotional. We started with teh story of Adam and Eve and how Satan tempted them with the fruit, thus sinners were born. She has been referring to "bad" people as Shooting guys, so we tallked about how not all "bad" people actually shoot...
But the rest of the conversation was a bit cute so I'll follow my friend Marianne's template in kid conversation:
G: is Satan a bad guy?
Me: yes- he is the opposite of God
G: so that makes God like the goodest of all, right?
Me: yes it does and God is always with us.
G: she looks around the room
Me: I say He is even with us right now.
G: looks around some more and then all of sudden Greg's footsteps in hall. (Heavy feet on hard floors)
I thought her eyes were gonna pop out of her head!
Me: oh, that's just daddy.
G: So we need to always listen to God?
Me: yes, He is Love and helps us always
G: Does Satan have a wife and kids?
Me: no--he a lonely guy
G: does he drive a car? because if he does then he drive to our house and get me
Me: no, Satan does not drive a car, but God lives in your heart and so Satan can never hurt as long as you listen to God and do what He says.
G: then I'm gonna listen to God because i don't want to a bad girl
Then Greg and I proceeded to tell her that God wants her to sleep in her room.
G: I don't think God is really saying that b/c He doesn't want me to be scared.
It was a nice try, maybe we'll try again tomorrow, but I had fun listening to her comprehend the good and bad.
If you don't talk to your kids about God, you should. They want and need to know about His love for all of us...not to mention you may get a good laugh out of the conversation!

So cute!!!!
HOW PRECIOUS! I cannot wait for those conversations with Will. Thanks for sharing.
Kori Hays, whom I consider to be a reasonably bright and normalish and well-raised child, slept with us almost every night until she was 6yo for at least part of the night. We finally got her a cat as a go-to-sleep-in-your-own-bed bribe. Of course, she only scooped cat poop for a week and now it's our job, but she DOES go to bed in her own room.
Now, she gets up at 6, dresses, and crawls in bed with me... but that's another story.
